This year's summer festival (Panayiri)in Roda is to be held on Thursday 18th. August in front of the Aphroditi Hotel. The band Faiakes will be playing and singing. There will be souvlaki, loukamades, maybe grilled sweetcorn or even lamb on a spit, beer, retsina and soft drinks. There is nearly always a display by a local dance troupe and then it is everybody's turn. The dancing goes on well into the night. It is organised by the local committee (syllagos) raising funds for village improvements. Starts when it goes dark.

There seems to a bit of a mix up about the festival. On the posters in Greek it says Thursday (pempti) 18th, in English it say Tuesday 18th. Also they have recently been held, as I said, in front of the Aphroditi, but it seems it could be at the crossroads. We will investigate and get back with the truth hopefully!

Watched this morning from balcony them clear all the seaweed from the beach on Afrodite beach. It took 3 hours by digger and truck. On as a guest can't get it to accept password asked to reset just won't happen.

I have found more information about this festival in Roda. It is tomorrow (Thursday) and is being held in an olive grove they have cleared between the Kalamaki grill room and the Pegasus Hotel on the Sidari Road from the crossroads. There will be the usual Faiakes for band providing the music and there will be souvlaki, loukamades etc. This is the first time the festival has been held here. It has been organised by a new joint syllagos (village council for Roda and Sfakera. Whilst we are sure there will be a good representation of local village people, we are not so sure many tourists will desert the beach front to attend. Maybe some of the people staying at the Pegasus, Oasis and Kosmas will venture in on their way past.

Went to festival last night about 1000 people having a great time. We joined in food superb drink loads of it and music went on and on. We danced the best we could. Sadly as Steve thought there would be we counted 6 Brits we were 2 ha. Loukamades I had 2 souvlaki we had double portions with bread so delicious. Only going for a hour that turned into 3 the people we had met from O'arabas and Tassos from the new Italian gave us such a warm welcome That's what Roda is all about. The band were great.

Posters have appeared today announcing the Roda Wine Festival on Sunday. As with most wine festivals across Europe, the decks are being cleared in time for this year’s grapes. If you can come along, then the wine is FREE!, and there will be the usual souvlaki, lamb on the spit and the band 'Faiakes.’ So where is it? ... the truth is, we don’t know, but we guess it will be on the field that was cleared for the last festival, between the Kalamaki Grill Room and Pegasus Hotel, on the main road. We’ll let you know more when we can ..

I wonder how many Brits will attend this one, unless Dave and Paula are still there. As it's beyond the Triangle and Crossroads, too far for some !!!

It was too far for most, johnboy - there were only a handful of ex-pats & visitors at the festival, even though it was one of the best we have attendend ...
