Hi everyone.
We'll be driving from the airport on Wednesday night. As we've always done taxis before, never actually driven this route. Is there an idiots guide available, or could some kind soul pm me? We've driven all over the island, but never from the airport, and I believe there's been roadworks/ring road or something since we were last in Corfu. Add to that it'll be dark, and I have visions of ending up somewhere near the top of Pantokrator instead of Paradise Village...... Thanks.

Hi Wendy - if you’ve driven here before, then it’s only getting out of town that should bother you. The simple way is to turn right when leaving the airport by the football ground and follow that road as it winds its way down to Garitsa Bay - about 2/3 minutes. Turn left when you come to the sea and keep the water on your right. Up the hill into the square by the cricket ground, right through the archway at the end and you come to Faliraki. Follow the sea again on your right all the way past the port, along the new dual carriageway and up the junction opposite Lidl. Turn right there on the Paleo road and the rest you should know. Stick to the main road through Skripero and over the pass at Troumpetta - the coast road would be more difficult at night.

Steve's description is perfect - I agree with him about the coast road too - wouldn't want to do that at night.

Steve That's great thanks Steve. Just one thing - do you mean straight through the archway, or turn right through the archway? I'm not driving, so I'll be navigating, so it'll be my fault if we get lost-

Through the archway and straight on you will see the sea (still on your right hand side) follow the road round and the bend and keep going on this road with the sea always on your right - you can't go wrong Wendy - if we can do it anybody can.

Thanks Kath. We've driven into Corfu town before, but that was a long time ago, we usually go by boat if we go at all these days, and never driven from the airport. Thinking about it though, Alex from Dromeas will be meeting us with the car, so I suppose we can always follow him back to Roda:)

Once you turn left on to the sea front at Garitsa Bay the road alongside the sea becomes a one way system at the top of the hill, all along the sea front, around by Faliraki and up to the area where the "new fort" appears on your left, keep on the same road all the way past the port up to the first main junction, turn right at the traffic lights and just stay on that road, straight across at all the traffic lights all the way to the main junction in the middle of the island, then just turn right - sign posted "Sidari". pete.

I came this way yesterday and noticed that there was not one car parked along the seafront at Garitsa - has parking along the sea been banned? Wendy ... Alex may just leave the car for you in the carpark and, even if he doesn’t, he may be returning on a motorbike. He could take the new road past the bus station and into San Rocco Square, which might not be as easy for you.

I've been along Garitsa many times recently, sometimes there are cars there sometimes not, I think the whole island is very quiet, I've never seen the airport so empty as it is this year, even the road to Corfu town has been empty many times, I really thought things would have picked up by now. We planned the customary ‘two hours before arrival’ and there were no queues outside the airport and not one person waiting at passport control. The departures board was full, so there were clearly lots of flights, but not when we were there.
The pavement along Garitsa Bay is actually over water for a good way. There was some repair work being carried out, so maybe cars are being discouraged at the moment.
