There has been a report in Ekathemarini that states that the Greek government is going to extend the tourist season up to nine months, from March 1st. to November 30th. for 2016. It is going to be rolled out in the south Aegean and Crete as they have a more favourable climate, but the plan is to roll it out over the whole of Greece over the next few years. Steve and I have often said that Corfu and Roda have scope for a limited amount of tourism during the close season. Not everyone wants heat and sunshine and some accommodation already has heating. and resorts like Roda and Acharavi have some restaurants and bars and shops open throughout the year. Avoiding the very wet months of February and March, Corfu can be a very pleasant place for walking, painting, photography and wildlife. It will be an interesting development to keep an eye on. As they say, watch this space!

Interesting indeed; an accommodation will still need to get a certain amount of bookings to make opening worthwhile. Will TOs get enough interest to open and sort flights? Will there be direct flights for Independent travellers? Lots of questions to be answered for Corfu who are the northernmost Island. Makes sense in Rhodes, Kos but it will be harder to get the airlines interested for Corfu whatever the Greek Government suggest.

This may actually be the result of campaigning by easyJet to extend the Greek season, which we reported a few weeks ago. If it is, then flights would be taken care of.

What's Corfu town like in the winter as far as hotels & restaurants go? I've always thought that would make a good winter city break.

Hi Alan & Ann - I think Corfu Town would be a great place for a winter break. There are certain to be hotels open and many of the rrestuarants will be busy. The problem is getting there, as there are no direct flights from the UK and you would have to travel via Athens to get a connecting flight from there.
