We’re on our way back from Roda to the UK, stopping, as you do, in Belgium. I have never seen as many police in a town as there were in Bruges this afternoon, as Legia Warsaw football ‘fans’ assemble for the big game. If this is football in the 21st century, then I’ll stick to cricket!

We stopped watching the fancy/dancy "top league" football many years ago and don't miss it one bit. Our version of 21st century football is to follow our local team (Whitley Bay) in the English Northern League Division 1 - home and away. The supporters of both teams sit/stand side by side - have amicable conversations about the match and win, lose or draw we part on good terms. There is none of the fake "kissing of the club badge" on the shirts of the overpaid prima donna players who then move on to their next mega bucks deal. Nah! give me non-league footie any day of the week.

Supporting your local club is going back to the roots of the game, Kath - much better in my opinion, although I must say that the game I watched at Nymfes recently was full of ‘dives’ and pained expressions. Someone wrote that football is nothing more than ‘manufactured drama with overpaid actors!’ It’s hard to disagree!
