Welcome to the forum, astratton, and welcome to Roda. Pete has told you about Oscar’s, Pirates’ Bar and the grill room - all of which are open all year. The end of October is hugely influenced by the major tour operators who send many people on the ‘allocate on arrival’ basis, so no one knows where they will end up until they arrive. If they arrive in Roda, then many bars & restaurants continue a little longer than usual. In addition to the three above, there will also be Nemo, Drosia, JJ’s Sports Bar & O Arabas. Also, there are some that on past performance may stay open, or may close. These include Skouna, Roxanne’s, Alexandros, The Boathouse, Sandy’s, Roda Park, Pixida & Tao. By then, one or two may open at weekends only, much as they do in the winter. On Wednesday October 28th, there is a big celebration in Greece and there will be a parade in nearby Acharavi from around 11am - definitely worth a visit. Hope you enjoy your stay ...

Hi Steve Thanks very much for your reply, well appreciated. We have been to Roda many times now but not in October, we are coming on this date as its half term here in the UK so hoping things will stay open, like you said because of the operators sending people on the allocate arrival bit. I love oscars bar and know Sandy quite well, am hoping that the Boathouse will be open as it looks lovely there. Have tried contacting them but the email bounces back. If i think of anything else I will contact you . thanks again

Jon, at the Boathouse, sends us mixed messages, but then he is a bit laid-back! He says he will open at weekends, but he’s been closed for a few days now. We live in hope, and I’ll ask him what’s happening when I see him.

If you hire a car for a few days, pick your day with nice weather, there are some lovely villages and places to visit which can still be great even at the end of the season. For example Kassiopi with its little working harbour and ruined venetian fortress to explore Doukades and its Donkey sanctuary Pelekas with its Kaiser's Throne could be included with trip to Corfu Town Afionas with a walk through the tiny streets and the views over two amazing bays in the north west Old Perithia for a good scramble, tavernas open at weekends but need good weather Pantokrator needs the good clarity you get at this time of year, the views over the whole island are amazing Benitses old village with Kaiser's bridge on the way and lovely views Kanoni in Corfu Town maybe seeing a plane land over head There are many museums in Corfu Town, two of the more unusual are:- The Corfu Philharmonic Society's museum on Nikiforou Theotoki St. www.museum.fek.gr (Every village has its own band), music is integral to life here and evryone learns to play an instrument at school. Also Casa Parlante , on the same street,a renovated town house showing middle class life in the 19th Century www.casaparlante.gr Wander round the lanes around Roda the wild flowers, cyclamen etc are lovely, gather conkers, look for blackberries the list could go on
