Hi there. Curiosity has got the better of me and I really must find out what happened to a wonderful place in Roda that I went to on my first ever holiday abroad to Roda. It was called Paradise Village Apartments and had an adjacent pool called The Roda Blue. Not sure if the two where connected at some point but my searches have revealed nothing of the pool at all. I travelled there in the late 90's and remember the family that ran the pool and bar at the time. The main barman was Nikos and I believe his parents ran the pool side of things. The Chef was known as Mr Stamatis (not sure of spelling) and they really made my first ever holiday abroad from uk the very best! Would love to know if the pool or the family are still there. If anyone could let me know I would be extremely grateful. Hate the thought that the place has gone Thank you for anything you can tell me xxx

Hi Cat - I’ve no idea who ran the pool in the late 90s - the last ones there were Janice & Terry who previously had the Gallery Bar and then a UK shop on the main road. They left a few years ago and the Roda Blue pool is now almost derelict. Paradise Village has been very quiet for several years, perhaps partly due to the owners living in South Africa. They do return each year and I believe they have refurbished and gone a bit more upmarket. They do have a website, so maybe their business will return soon.

cant for some reason get on the shoutbox,so here is my take on the discussion on there.on my first visit to roda 1987 there was no drain in situ it was installed later ,for what or why i dont know it never appeared to allow any discharge onto the beach for years then 5 small studios to the rear of 5 roses were demolished ,and a large villa erected on the site , then the pipe started emitting water .as for it being the river past theos ,nonsense .the sand on the beach is wet because the sea was a metre short of the steps at harbour bar and the beach frontage towards newport less than 2 metres wide ,so if that is natural water filtering thru from nimfes or any other natural spring my question is would you drink it .and take it from me twistybird laurence is not an Angryman

As far as I know, John, the villa belongs to a Greek American who is in residence for one month in August. I think that for eleven months of the year, the villa is unoccupied. I can’t see it making much difference to anything.

BEING A BUILDER ,I KNOW THAT LARGE CONSTRUCTION MAY ALTER THE WATER TABLE IN THE IMMEADIATE AREA. THUS ALTERING WHERE WATER MAY OR MAY NOT RE- APPEAR ALSO THE INTRODUCTION OF LARGE PAVED OR TILED AREAS ALSO PREVENTS WATER LEECHING INTO THE GROUND ,WHICH OVERLOADS WATERCOURSES AND DRAINS . THE QUESTION REMAINS WOULD YOU DRINK IT ?,OR EVEN BATHE IN IT?.[just noticed all in capitals not shouting just did not know]
