Hi all, We are coming out on 3rd August for a week and just wondered what to expect from Roda. We have friends who come 3 times a year and always rave about the place so figured we should try it for ourselves! This maybe the wrong section for it but what sort of budget to people have as a couple? We like to eat out and about, try different places, and like a few drinkies in the evenings. Any guides on prices etc would be hugely appreciated. Chris & Anita

Hi Chris & Anita & welcome to the forum. The average price of a main course meal is from 8 to 12 euros, a decent beer is 2.5/3 euros, there are cheaper ones, a glass of wine is about 2.5 euros and spirits are 4/4.5 euros for a large measure, cocktails vary from 4 to 7 depending on where you go - you get what you pay for!!! When we came on holiday we used to budget 100 euros per day for the 2 of us, that was for sunbeds & parasol on the beach, eating out for all meals and the obligatory drinks at night. Hope this has been of some help to you, feel free to ask as many questions as you need to make your stay with us an enjoyable one. pete.

Hi both - welcome to Roda! Don’t forget that the Greeks often do not eat main courses as we do, so why not try a selection of starters between you? The cost works out much the same, but the variety of tastes is superior and it allows you try a greater range of Greek food. There are also the grill rooms where you can get souvlakis, gyros pittas and many other grilled meat dishes at much lower prices. Pete’s budget still holds true, with most couples allowing £1000 for a two-week stay - exactly €100 per day at today’s rate.

Thank you both so much. €100 a day was what we were thinking. Having only been to Turkey for the last few years we didn't know what to expect having never used the Euro before as Turkey is so cheap to eat and drink. This time next week we will be on our way to the airport ??

Hi we were in Roda in June and took 2000 euros which worked out at about £1500 we came back with the grand sum of 90 euros which was 90 more than I expected as I thought we would need to go to the cash point before the end of the holiday. We paid between 25-40 euros for a 2 course meal with a carafe of wine and a garlic bread to go with the starters which I though was great value - we both enjoy a drink so we probably spend a fair bit there but why not we are on holiday !!! I hope you have a great holiday and end up as hooked on Roda as the rest of us xxx

We took £1000 last year and comfortably had enough for 2 weeks on the lower exchange rate of that time. I think it really comes down to what you want to fit in and how much boozing you want to do.
Ours covered beds hire most days, daily lunches and evening meals (always at least 2 courses) and a couple of drinks after. Obviously if you want to do trips you may have to take a bit more to cover this. We did a day to Sidari on the cheap using the local bus.

Hi we were in Roda for 2 weeks in self catering but to be honest my limit on holiday was a cup of coffee (usually with Tia Maria in) and cooking some cheese and crackers lol so we did eat out for every meal. We were staying in Fiona apts (opposite Theos pool) and the breakfast there will fill anyone up for the day if I remember right it was 5 euros and even I was struggling and I eat like a horse. You can get a full English breakfast cheaper than that if you look around if thats the sort of thing you like but if you want something lighter thats available as well. We set a budget of £100 per day plus a bit extra for air conditioning for the week and the money we took covered that easily and to be truthful if we weren't out till stupid o clock a few nights we would have spent a lot less - like Antony said it depends on what you plan to do trips will need a bit extra but we found everything to be so cheap I would be surprised if you aren't struggling to spend your money - if you get stuck I have no problem flying over and helping your out - have a great time x

Thanks for all the great information everyone. Can anyone give a rough idea on a price for aircon and a safe for a week please? Also, do they still sell fortuna cigarettes in Greece/Roda? Been 15 years since my last visit to Greece and it was always my preferred smoke when out there. Thank you. Chris

Hi Chris, air con is about 7 euros per day, think a safe is about 10 euros per week if your accommodation has them, if not they are free at the various travel shops. I'll check on your cigs tomorrow. pete.

Hi Chris, I looked for the Fortuna cigs this morning when I was getting mine but couldn't see them on the shelves, if they still make them perhaps the shop can order you some, usually have a delivery 3 times a week. pete.
