Two or three of the businesses I have asked, say that they are more or less the same as last year or even busier in one case. The media is full of reduced bookings but, as Pete says, 80 ‘planes today is significant, especially as none of those are going on to cruise ships. Roda seems to be bouyant at the moment.

One local businessman asked tonight “what’s happening!?” The village was buzzing with people, many maybe from the 80 flights. It seems that a lot are staying for only one week rather than two ... is this a result of the latest offers available in the UK? Whatever, it’s good for Corfu in the current climate.

An interesting article in the British press, lets hope we get more visitors to our lovely part of the Corfu.

I've just heard that credit/debit/prepaid cards are no longer usable in Greece as authorisation is being withheld across Europe. Any confirmation of this??

We’ve not heard that, but we did use ours at 5pm tonight - no problems then.

As Steve said we had no problems tonight at the Alpha bank with our eurocard. But that statement can be taken two ways:- 1- UK or other European cards not being accepted anywhere in Europe except their own country or, 2- that Greek cards are not being accepted outside of Greece, which I personally think is more likely. Can you find out more.

I have not been able to find reference to credit debit cards being unusable across Europe, but I did find one reference to a Greek couple having their cards being refused in America which left them broke. However I will keep an eye open for any relevant articles.

"All is Well Οn the Greek Islands” There are no reports from tour operators to suggest that there are disruptions to services on the Greek islands, British Ambassador to Greece John Rittmer said in a statement on Tuesday....

There are security guards at some atm's they are there to help the older people who have been issued with atm cards but have problems using them, if no €20 notes in machine which is now common they can only get €50.

There has been a lady from Brinks outside the ATM at Alphabank in Acharavi. When I was there, she was helping several people while eating a toastie donated by the cafeneion next door.

A friend of mine flies to Crete on Saturday. Two months ago he purchased a preloaded credit card from travelex. It has 1700 euros on it. He is worried about withdrawals while away, so asked the company to swap his card for cash. They offered to buy back his card and sell him euros.it would have meant him losing £90 , that was there charge to help him. Just a word to the wise.
