The Durrell family returns to their favourite island, Corfu, for the filming of a tv series. This island is an ideal setting for shooting movies, let alone for a film based on Durrells' life in Corfu.

Having seen "Kaz's" shoutbox post yesterday, I thought I'd post an update on this thread.
I have to admit to an added personal interest in this forthcoming ITV Drama since a good Corfiot long-term friend is one of its (many) extras - in fact there is a glimpse of him in the preview video contained within the article link below . . .

ITV's new series, The Durrells, is set to air on Sunday the 3rd April.
The date was officially announced a couple of days ago.
This six-part series focuses on a young Gerald Durrell as he grows up in Corfu.
He went on to create Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust in the island, with a mission to save species from extinction.

Well, it's not often that I give any credence to the content of the 'Daily Mail' but I've just come across a very informative feature article from that very paper, regarding the forthcoming "Durrells" ITV drama . . .

Certainly no where near Cape Drastis where Mrs Durrell was seen sitting under the olive trees having left the house; that would have been a 45km walk in 1935 from where they initially lived on the Island. Even where Margo was bathing wouldn't have come onto the Durrells horizon until Laurence moved with his girlfriend Nancy to The White House as it is just over the headland. Not sure where the house they used is.

Think the house may be in the Kontakoli area, a lot of filming was done there. Those of us who know Corfu well will have to take the views with a pinch of salt as the film makers are using quiet a bit of "poetic license" I think. just sit back & enjoy it. pete.

6.4m watched the 1st episode. If just a fraction are inspired to visit Corfu it will be great for the Islands tourism.
