hi all .
we are travelling independently this year for the first time ,and my wife asked me a question .
when we get to the airport to return home ,do we have to wait out side with all the tour operators or are we free to go inside and get ourselves sorted out . are we right in thinking we just walk past the mass of people and go inside.

That's what we do - it's one of the great things about going independently - just waltz in past the queues.

If it's busy you will find that the travel company reps will try to shepherd you to the back of their queue. To get round this go in through the arrivals entrance and walk along inside. Saves the aggravation of telling the reps that you aren't travelling with them so mind your business. Their response is that the airport authorities have asked them to manage the queues. I just ignore them.

Yeah, that's what we do too, Kernowman. In through the arrivals door & through the airport.
They'd be telling the wrong person what to do, if they started on me! lol

Hi Pagey, who are you flying with? If it's Easyjet or Ryanair there are no reps & hardly a queue, because everyone is independent with them, everyone turns up under their own steam & not on a large coach so the queues are minimum, if you're with one of the big flight operators ust do as everyone has already said. pete.

Some of the tour company reps can be a bit offensive, but they do have a job to do. I do not envy them trying to get everyone to stay outside in the sun. I accept that they should be firm, but politeness is essential. As the face of the company, how they present themselves has a lasting impression on visitors. I pulled up in a car one day last year, just to drop someone off, and one girl immediately leapt out and told me to move as a bus was due - obviously Corfu was not working its magic on her!
As for us, we use ‘arrivals’ to - it also has the best coffee shop!

if your transport to airport is a friend and greek ask them toask the staff which check in desk is your flight, and your off to a flier [if you will forgive the pun]

I have travelled for years independently and with tour operators but do my own thing. Had a bit of a barnie one year with a Thomas Cook rep who wanted me to pay for pre booked seats I point blank refused and told her that I am not on the coach as I have a car and will arrange my own check in. she replied with well just make sure you join the queue or I will pull you out of the check in. My reply was good luck with that one. Just do your own thing you wont be alone.

Agree with the above, same as Gil, I was told very harshly by a rep that I and my family were not allowed to just go to check in and I must join the queue outside with everyone else. I pointed out that I had travelled independently to and from the airport, had not seen or been looked after by a Rep for two weeks, so why would I want her help now! Surprisingly, she went back outside to herd the sheep! Happy Holidays!
