Lost 3-1 away to Olympiakos Corfu at Kontokali this afternoon after taking a 2nd half lead with a penalty. Gave away equaliser when striker beat goalie to mishit cross to head home. Sfakera had 7 good chances to score and put game to bed but couldn't hit the target with any off them. Two goals in last 5 minutes, 1st from throw in taken in wrong half to where ball went out and also 12 yards away! Evrn then in last minute Sfakera managed to miss after hitting post, the follow up ws somehow hit against team mate rather than into then empty net! If they had a good striker they would have won this game.
Sfakera sit out this weekend in a league with odd number of teams.

A 12 midday kick off lead to Sfakera controlling their game against Wolves (a team from Kassioppi). The sun was shining and the crowd of 35 enjoying themselves. It was a surprise that the game remained goalless at half time, the goalie did make some good saves but also poor finishing. A goal early in the 2nd half lead to Sfakera dominating the play, two more followed and thd visitors got a consolation in the last minute. So 3-1 and should have been at least double.

Today a 2-2 draw at home to Kousades. a very physical game with 10 yellow cards which Sfakera should have won. They spurned 3 good chances when 1 up. the visitors equaliser looked offside, their 2nd followed a bad error by Alexis who made amends with a great overlap and cross for the 2nd Sfakera goal. a very enjoyable game on a sunny afternoon, the 2nd half in shade as the sun was behind the hills, but as shining ovr the olive groves opposite thr stand made a very pleasant background.

Today Sfekera went to Kontokali to play Potomos and lost 1-0 in an even but at times bad tempered match littered with bookings. Kicking into the strong wind Sfakera nearly took a 3rd minute lead and were punished for the miss when they waited for an ofside not given only for a rasping angled shot to go high into their net shortly thereafter. On the backfoot for most of the half due to the wind. They did nearly equalise just before the interval but the defender cleared before the ball reached the goal. The 2nd half saw Sfakera attack more now the wind was behind them. A long freekick eluded everyone and goalie was fortunate to knock it onto the post, the rebound falling behind the striker was cleared to safety. This half also saw some stange decisions by both the referee and one linesman who flagged offside nearly everytime Sfakera attacked, much to the frustration of the players. Potomos twice went close in the closing minutes catching Sfakera on the counter after they had pushed a defender up to push for the equaliser, sadly it never came.

Another 1-0 defeat this time at home to Arillas on a lovely warm afternoon, the game in shade as the low sun was behind the hill. A first half where Sfakera missed several glorious chances to score but were also fortunste not to concede. The 2nd half full of incident, both teams hit the bar, Sfakera again miss chances and then fall behind, the scorer ran 70 yards up the pitch waving his shirt in the air. A melee was going on in the centre circle. The referee booked 4 players but not the scorer for taking off his shirt! There had been 3 bookings in the 1st half. Sfakera were then reduced to 10 following a sending off for a 2nd yellow. The referee then booked an Arillas player for a foul but not his team mate for kicking the ball away, that player had already been booked. Despite being a man light Sfakera created the best chance of the match following 4 swift passes, sadly the winger with just the goalie to beat screwed the shot wide. Arillas wrre denied a 2nd by good goalkeeping and smart defence as they attacked in the last 10 minutes as Sfakera had pushed a defender up to chase the equaliser that never came.

Sounds like a very interesting game, if not just for the football! I think the players just try to emulate what they see so called professional players do on the TV. But it is a nice place to watch football especially if the spectators are in the warm sunshine and the players are in the shde.

And today Nymphes played Lefkimmi. Not sure if it a crazy day or normal! Lefkimmi are one of top teams in A1 league so it was a big game. I arrive at 2.40pm, for 3.15pm ko, already lots cars parked on road and in olive groves approaching ground. Pay my 5€ so i can park behind stand, get couple beers and take a seat. Gground fills while music plays, a noise and about 80 lefkimmi fans come round corner down hill to ground, 2 coaches park in Nymphes square, drums beating, large red/black flag waving. They take their seats. Both sets fans let of loud firecrackers, teams come out and both sets fans light flares and red, grey, white smoke covers pitch.
Lefkimmi get an early goal, slow game down play around at back before try passing forwards. A drone flys over pitch, filming game, a camera in stand does likewise. The crowd is in excess of 400, stand full with othrrs stood behind and either side of it, about 20 on the rocks behind one goal and near 75 on track behind other. HT 1-0. We sre entrrtained by a group of 8 girls doing a cheerleader routine, the drone hovering above them. 2nd half and another early lefkimmi goal. Nymphes push forward, like in 1st half, but only create half chances which they fail to convert. Several stoppages for injuries and then an unusual moment. Nymphes attacking so their goalie on edge of his box, the drone operator lose control and it crash in the goalmouth! The linesman shouts, the gamr stops while a substitute who was warming up removes it from pitch, so it has only filmed 3/4 of game! Time for Lefkimmi to score a 3rd to run out comfortable winners to the noise and flares of their fans. To my surprise, with cars park everywhere, people walking to them or to Nymphes, i was able to leave with little delay. An enjoyable game, for a neutral on a lovely warm afternoon.

The absence of the Sfakera coach on Saturday was noted as he is so vociferous from the touchline. Well he resigned during the proceeding week, i understand he felt that he couldn't take the team further. Alexis, of Drunken Sailor, as player coach is in cartaker role while the Board decide how to proceed. Next game away at Karousades on Saturday.

Alex is such a keen sportsman, what with his heavy involvement with the cricket. I seem to vaguely remember that he has an interest in the martial arts as well. He does put so much into the community.

Saturday afternoon Nymphes had a hard fought win in front of nearly 200 at home to Olympous. Having spurned some great chances in the 1st half, the centre forward alone could have had an hat-trick, mis kick, then straight at goalie and finally headed just over all from crosses from the impressive winger. In the 2nd half continued in similar fashion but Olympous now also got their chances, the best of which saw the goalie well beaten only for the defender to head off the line. Finally in the 81st minute the Nymphes converted a chance to send the crowd home in good voice.
Today saw Sfekera play Sinarades in front of about 40, rain throughout getting heavier as match went on. Sinarades took the lead in the 23rd minute folling a mix up in the defence despite it being their first real move into the Sfakera penalty box. Sfakera got a deserved equaliser in the 34th minute following a nice move down the left. The game was even in the 2nd but Sinarades took the lead again on the hour. Here was a game that highlighted Sfakera's inability to convert chances as Sinarades showed accuracy with their shots. Late on as Sfakera pushed players they were caught on the break, the forward was clearly offside but play went on and he scored with a shot into the far corner. Just a minute later a similar breakaway but this time just onside saw a four goal curled over the goalie. The result flattered Sinarades but showed if you have players who can shot on target you are more likely to win.
