Repeat visitors to Roda Oasis are in for something of a surprise when the see the transformation. The 'Hotel' looks good from the outside, but wait until they see inside. There is a terrific sense of space, light & airyness that sets Oasis apart from any other that I know in the area. The changes are not confined to the reception, bar & restaurant as the whole of the complex has been upgraded with new walkways, clever lighting, new poolside toilets, a shower room for late departures, and the first dedicated disabled room in the village. Anyone wanting top-class disabled facilities should book early ...

is it too much to hope for that the owners have also had a personality transplant? Or is that just me being a cynical so and so?

that doesn't sound too good - brilliant accommodation and "iffy" owners - never stayed there before!

Stayed there twice, loved it and the owners, spotlessly clean Hotel and if problems occurred they could not do enough for me and the family. Only reason I haven't gone back again, is where its located, and now find it cheaper to arrange my own flights etc...

Not a very nice comment lisydaly. I just hope newcomers on here not knowing Roda or the Hotel Oasis well, are not put of by your comment. We and many other people have stayed at the Oasis and enjoyed the company of the owners. OK. the prices are a bit steep in the bar and they do tend to diggle the bill if your not careful and pay for each round rather than have a tab and no receipts to check the cost. We stay there because we like the quiet and to go into the village for evening meals and entertainment. But then the walk back to the hotel is a bit wobbley and we end up having a couple of night caps, all in all we have never had anything to complain about there! The accommodation/pool/garden area's are spotless. Unfortunately we wont be going to Roda this year, but will be back at the Oasis next year. Pandora

We have stayed at The Oasis 2 or 3 times and even when we are staying elsewhere (lately The Pegasus after a bit of a hiatus from Roda) we pop in to say hello and always get a Greek welcome from both Kostas & Nikos. God forbid they get a personality transplant because we & almost all of their guests love them for who they are & what they do for them, granted they are very good businessmen and their job is to prise as much money from the tourists as possible but the same applies to every business in Roda.

Lol. Pandora - I don't think you'd make a great defence lawyer. Essentially you seemed to say that the owners are great but they will rob you blind in you let them.
I don't have an opinion either way but that was comedy.

Adding value in business means going beyond standard expectations and providing something "more", even if the cost is higher to the client or purchaser. Value-added features give competitive edges to companies with otherwise more expensive products. I'm not sure that Kostas & Nikos see that their job is to prise as much money from the tourists as possible but they do add value as can be seen from these comments. Anyone looking at their hotel today will clearly see how they are focusing their attention on their clients, sufficient of whom appreciate what they are doing. This surely makes them successful and, perhaps, we need more businesses to adopt the same stance.
I don't accept that every business in Roda is prising as much money as they can from their customers and I've found that, in particular, food and drinks in Roda are much more reasonably priced than other resorts around the island. If you want to see how to prise money from customers, then go to Florence or Pisa where it has become a way of life. In Florence, it's hard not to get ripped off. We had two capuccinos, very cheap across Italy, which carried a delivery charge of €2 each. Advertised as €1.50, the 'table' charge was an extra €2 for the owner to deliver them a whole one metre from where he made them. I reckon his deliveries equate to €4800 per hour! Even on the motorways in Italy, great capuccinos cost only €1.20.
I think this highlights an important issue - In Florence, they get enough business and they don't care if you never return. In Roda, we want you back ...

Didn't say they weren't good businessmen, didn't say they overcharged, just said what my opinion is - that their attitude leaves/left something to be desired (can't comment on recently as I don't use the place, and wouldn't if they paid me)if you try to 'escape' to other bars etc. We can't all like the same things, it would be a boring world if we did, but after nearly 40 years of Corfu, including living there for 15 years, I am entitled to voice comments on things tourists wouldn't necessarily know about. And before anyone comments - yes, we are back to being tourists ourselves now, but with a wealth of experience and knowledge behind us.

Like Pete, I’m not sure how people have been nasty to you, Pandoro. There are strong views on both sides, but that’s what the forum is about. I hope you feel you can still contribute ...

Surely "adding value" means just that- incentivizing to use a particular service over another because of enhanced services/facilities/freebies etc at the same of comparative price?? For instance maybe inclusive air conditioning instead of the extra charge so beloved in the backward greek resorts. Roda is a cheap resort- because the accomodation owners are living in the 1980's and therefore only attract clientss who are stuck in the same time warp

I personally love the fact that roda is the way it is, previously aspects of it were compared to being stuck in the 1980s. I value this more, as a way of retreat, from getting away from the intensity of the fast paced living back home. To almost step back in time, for me, is magical having been born in the 1980s myself, them days seem all but a distant fond memory. I personally don't see a problem for paying a little extra for things like air con, leaving small change for the cleaners when they have done a lovely job after our hols. They and everyone else put a lot of time and effort, into ensuring every aspect of your holiday is just right. At the end of the day the residents have the summer to make a living to sustain them through the winter months, so why shouldn't they be allowed to charge for certain things. I have been frequenting roda with my family now since I was 10-11, turning 30 this year, that is a lot of years, so I see the village and people as a pleasant extension to my family. They always thrive to make my holiday perfect, hence my decision to keep coming back every year. Why go anywhere else through risk of not getting the same experiences elsewhere. Again my own personal opinion, like someone similarly said in a earlier post, we would all be boring if we all had the same interests, needs and values.
