Hi, After much research ( i.e. lots of web searching and, "Alison, can we afford this?" ) we've booked a couple of weeks in Venus Apartments on the 10th October ( a lot of the blame for this is down to me finding this website, so you only have yourselves to blame ). So, it's very likely that between now and then I shall be popping up and asking various questions that I cannot find the answers to online. So I'll say sorry in advance for the bother :- SORRY. The two questions I have at the moment are;1) Will there be any where to get a meal/drink near to the Apartments as we are arriving quite late. Approx. time of flight landing 22:40 + coach travel time?
2) Is there a recommended car hire in Roda? We usually Hire one for a week mid holiday.
Thanks for reading this and look forward to any replies and we're really looking forward to exploring Roda.
Regards
Phil 'n' Alison

Hi Phil & welcome to the forum, feel free to ask as many questions as you need to to help you have a great holiday, why not make yourself a member? To answer your first question, it's going to be at least midnight if not later when you get to Venus, there are not any places next to the complex to get something to eat at that time, Yummies snack bar and Dimiti's grill room will both be open in the village till the early hours but are a bit of a walk at that time of night, it might be best to get a sandwich at the u.k. airport & bring it with you. The bar at Venus will probably be open but I don't know if you will get any food at that time. As for car hire there are several places in the village where you can rent a car, one of the most popular with our members is Dromeas on the main road from the crossroads to the beach. pete.

Welcome to the forum Phil 'n' Alison - Venus is a great place for a relaxing holiday but it may be a bit far to get to the late-night places after a long journey and much depends on your transfer time. By taxi, you would be here before midnight, on a transfer coach it could be as late as 2am. If you are early, then Charlie may well make up a snack for you at Venus, but best to do what Pete says. There looks like a new grill room is about to open on your way in to Roda, but it may not be ready for when you come. Just beyond that is the Boathouse where you can get a drink until the early hours of the morning. Enjoy your stay,
Steve

O.K. You've twisted my arm - I've joined.
Thanks to both of you for your replies, I've shown them to Alison (hereinafter known as 'The Boss'), and told her she would have to wear an Ox as a fur stole on the flight so we could have a roast by the pool when we arrive - funnily enough she doesn't seem too keen on the idea.
The last time we traveled to Greece (Rhodes about four years ago) we yet again arrived in the small hours and the place, apart from the bloke who handed out the keys, was closed. It was a long night!
I've read on the forum about access to WiFi but the was a few years ago, so how's the availability now? I have to check on my lottery tickets, 'cause if I've won, there would be no reason to return home -what bliss.
Regards
PnA

Hi Phil, there is free wifi access at most bars, tavernas and apartments, if you buy a drink in any of the bars they will give you their passwords. pete.

Hi Pete, Thanks for that. I suppose I shall have to suffer being dragged kicking and screaming into various and many drinking and eating establishments. Oh dear, what a pity Regards Phil

Hi, me again.
Just a quickie (Oower!)
Is Roda pronounced 'Road-a' Or 'Rue-Da' or something completely different?
And, thinking back to previous holidays in greece, (ahem) what's the deal with toilet paper? Is it put in the bin or flushed?
Sorry if I've spoilt someones meal.
Regards
Phil
BTW Alison has put her first bits of holiday stuff in her case (Mozzie killers and their tablets) today.

Hi Phil, it's pronounced Row da, ( row as in a boat not row as in argue) and in nearly every establishment it's the bin in the corner. pete.

Hi Pete, thanks for that.
I was reading the post about beer, I hope there's plenty in stock because the darker beers look very interesting.
In the immortal words of Homer Simpson, " Mmmmm Beer....."

Hi Chris, everyone has their own favourite bars & restaurants, have a look at the reviews & comments in the sections of the forum towards the bottom of the home page, in all the years I've been coming here I've had just a couple of dodgy meals & one bit of bad service and I've put them all down to someone having an off day. rodaonline.proboards.com/board/21/roda-restaurantsrodaonline.proboards.com/board/6/roda-barsDrinks prices are cheaper than in the U.K. unless you want British brand beers, a decent pint will cost you 2.5 euros although there are cheaper alternatives, spirits are 3.5 - 4.5 euros each but the measures are much larger than in the U.K. Meal prices are generally less than the U.K. with main courses anywhere between 7 and 12 euros, the local grill rooms are very inexpensive if you are on a budget, for example a "Gyros" is only 2.4 euros. Feel free to ask any more questions that you may have to help you enjoy your stay in our village. pete.

Many thanks Pete, prices sound to my liking and will check out the links you have posted. Been a long time since I've been to Corfu and my other halves first time, really looking forward to it.
