Let’s face it, our favourite holiday village is actually a business or, more accurately, an organisation of small companies offering goods and services in exchange for money. Roda, of course, is much more than that in that it provides important social elements that a business can never do. It has a network of meeting places for old friends, multiple introduction agencies for new ones, it is a place of retirement for some, a village of opportunity for others, a place of dreams for us all …
Whether or not we each have a short or long-term presence in Roda, we are all stakeholders and, as such, we have an interest in its ongoing success. Every business requires some form of investment and enough customers to whom its output can be sold on a consistent basis in order to make a profit. There is no such thing as being stagnant in business. The moment you think you're doing everything just as it should be done and all you need to do is keep sailing with the wind in your back, you're asking for your ship to sink.
I believe that Roda, collectively, understands this simple rule and seems to respond well to changes when the time is just right. When the website Official Roda was created back in 2006, it was probably the first on the island and pushed awareness of our village to new levels. Rodaonline subsequently took that further and is still, today, just about the most comprehensive and visited village website in Corfu. So what next?
2014 has seen massive changes around the village as a process of continuous improvement has emerged which I’ve not observed elsewhere. The general rule about continuous improvement in a company is that the more employees that are engaged in it, the more successful it will be. Every day in Roda, I notice something new that wasn’t there yesterday … every day, there is someone trying to be different. A lot of our businesses now are run by young people and it seems as though they are really competing in an attempt to set themselves apart, and they are so enthusiastic. I think the enthusiasm in Roda today is unique – have you noticed the changes? Please tell us what you’ve seen …

Took our first stroll into the village last night and dined at the lovely NewPort. The new terrace areas look lovely and the village had that wonderful feel about it. Great to see old friends and enjoy the wonderful feel only Roda has. :-)

Village, seafront, beach and sea - all in one continuous promenade. There are very few places in Corfu where this is possible - only in Roda. Infinitely recognisable by the colours, New Port Restaurant is now even closer to the harbour.

'The Boathouse' - another fine example of young people at work in Roda this year, trying to improve our wonderful village.
