Talking to various people around the village, May 1st seems to be the day when everything will be fully open. Theodoros is already open, as are the usual winter stalwarts. It looks as though El Mar & New Port will open for May Day when the village will hold its first street festival 0f 2014. Changes are still being made and there will be one or two new enterprises. I think NSK will still open in the old Pangalos building, but there will be a new shop/office in what was Caesar's Place which will be run by Renna & Vikis who many of us will know from Nostos Travel. Activity has been seen in the previously empty, fully refurbished, old Skouna night club at the rear of Skouna as it is now. Maybe something will finally emerge from there. The reptile business seems to have finally closed as the premises are up for rent again.

Walking through the village tonight Steve and I were surprised and delighted to come across fireflies by the harbour. Is this early for them? Also we saw our first swallowtail butterfly fluttering past our balcony. The flowers are gorgeous as well, I have a vase full of deep purple wild orchids and pale pink mayflowers all picked in our garden.

Jan, the fireflies will be around from now until sometime in May, last year the best place to see them was behind Roda Park & Pipitsa's, in the field with the long grass, the problem this year may be that Costas has spent the last 2 afternoons strimming the grass, I think they prefer it in the longer grass, it will be interesting to see what they are like up in the olive groves by our house. pete.

The most fireflies I ever saw were there behind Roda Park - there were thousands of them! The ones we saw tonight were outside Lola's house by Jon's new bar, and over the sea by the outlet to the stream ... let's hope that Kosta's strimming doesn't affect them.

I've heard that the old Skouna is to become some sort of coffee bar. Seems a bit strange though as obviously Skouna on the front is well known for its coffee.

Yeah, it'd be strange for another place so close. Especially when you can have a seaview in Skouna - you wouldn't want to go way into the old place.

Skouna's coffee survives, Nikki, simply because it is the best. I understand that the old Skouna building at the rear, which was renovated about 4/5 years ago with a licence for an internet cafe, is now to be a club - not the garden area, just the building. I have no idea what format the club will take, but I'll keep you informed.
