Hi Michael, there are no markets as you know them in the U.K. but there are lots of leather , lace, t shirt, pottery and local produce shops in all the villages, if shopping is a "must do" then a trip to Corfu town will provide anything you might want. pete.

If its food shopping you want, then Corfu Town is a must! The daily morning market is fantastic but, unfortunately, it's the only one on the island. You will see things there you didn't know existed, and the fish! - oh, the fish!

Steve I second that the open market in Corfu town is certainly worth a visit

Walked through the market this morning, talk about an abundance of fresh fruit ,vegetables & plants, plus as you say, the fish - never seen so many different ones on display and all very freshly caught by the look of them. pete.

If you're adventurous, Pete, you can find all manner of unusual things for sale at the market. I once bought young 'black bryony' shoots from a lady selling nothing else. They are a bit like asparagus spears, they do also grow in Roda, and, of course, you eat them warm with oil & lemon juice. The best time to see the fish is around 8am when the guys from the trawlers are selling their catch to market stallholders and fish sellers from around the island. The coffee shop in the middle sells some of the cheapest coffees you will find anywhere.

I hope I am talking about the same coffee place Steve. I remember an oldish lady running the coffee shop. One would ask for a coffee and she would indicate where everything was, and you made it yourself, and then leave the money on the side. So trustworthy.
