I do not know if there are any laws covering what rate exchanges give, but from what I have seen here I doubt it. Rates always vary as do the commissions, I have seen and heard of between no commission to 2.5%, either way you normally end up with a similar amount of Euros, i.e no commission low exchange rate, 2.5% commission a higher exchange rate. Usually you end up with around 3 to 4 cents below the interbank rate which can be found here www.bbc.co.uk/news/business/market_data/ticker/markets/11/13/default.stm Rates go up and down daily and for the average holiday maker chasing round to get an extra euro is wasting your time, different if you are going to exchange a large amount and it is always worth asking if there is a better rate for large amounts. I find the best way at the present time is to use a Metro Bank or N&P debit card, interbank rate and no commission, hope this helps, CC

As we speak the rate from ATM's is already €1.2649, this information is only for a short period of time. Pete has already pointed out that these are not the rates at exchanges in Roda, as suggested before look at the BBC and even then there is a 20 minute delay to prices. CC

You're not far off Kath, I was in the village an hour ago and the exchange places were showing 1.23. It is a bit misleading to quote travel shop rates at 1.25+, we then hear visitors complaining when they see the true rates. pete.

Yes Pete, and then there's a 2% commission to take into account at the 'Travel Shops' and similar outlets - thereby giving an actual in-the-hand rate of €1.205 for your quoted rate of €1.23.
As has been said so often before, by various contributors: The tourist rate of Foreign Exchange can be roughly calculated by looking at the INTERBANK/BUSINESS TRADING RATE and then subtracting 1.5 to 2%. This will give an approximate Tourist Rate.
The actual rate you would then get will depend upon the provider you choose to buy from - most of whom who will then deduct some form of commission (varying between zero and maybe 5%) but is only 2% in the village.
Rgds, Chris

I would like to point out, that the figures I give are from various websites, that I believe reflect the market at that time. For instance the Corfu ATM/Travel Shop figure is taken from the All Corfu website. Since having this brought to my notice by Pete, I have taken of the average 2% commission rate to derive the figure I give. It is only meant to be a guide and help as to what the average exchange rates are. My apologies to those who have found different figures when making exchanges.

It doesn't matter where the figures come from Chris, if they are wrong they are wrong, the international bank rate hasn't been much more than 1.25 all year so the travel shops will never be that high, again today in Roda it's 1.23. pete.

Does anyone know the exchange rate at the moment in Roda as it is 1.2491 in my local money exchange with no commission and I don't know whether to change all before I go.

I'll check later, Maudy, but I imagine they will all be around €1.25 less comission.
