Hello everyone, when we are on Holiday I always try and find somewhere for that one off extra special meal which usually costs that bit extra but normally worth it , and was wondering where you Roda experts recommend. I await your replies with mouth already watering and tummy rumbling. Michael and Pauline.

If you are looking for somewhere in Roda I would highly recommend El Mar. However if you are looking for something further afield there are some nice tavernas in Agni (you can even arrange to arrive and depart by boat). We did that for Fathers Day one year and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience - rather more costly than a night in Roda - but worth it we felt for a special occasion.

El Mar seemed to be everyone's venue of choice last season, with a slightly different menu from most others, great presentation of the meals and a superb setting it certainly set the standard for others to follow. With a full house most evenings it was advisable to book a table the night before or during the daytime, I think it might be even more popular this year. pete.

There's a place just up the hills from Acharavi, not too far away so shouldnt be too expensive to get a taxi. I think its called the Sunset Taverna. We stopped there on the way back from a trip up Mt. Pantokrator, as the name suggests the sunset views there are stunning, and as I remember the food was pretty good. The owner of the taverna was also nice enough to give us a lift back to roda in his car.

I can recommend The Dolphin in Roda. The kleftiko was excellent. El Mar also very good. Wasn't over keen on The Newport.

I agree with Kathwebber Agni is something special. We always hire a boat from Kassiopi and spend the morning going down the coast and snorkelling in the various bays including Rothchilds bay Kalami and others and then on to Agni for lunch and a relaxing but bumpy ride back as the wind gets up at around 4 oclock but an experience in itself for me a must.

Just to clarify my post - we didnt hire a boat to get to Agni - we reserved a table for Taverna Agni for the evening in question and requested their boat taxi. There were 4 of us - we were picked up at St Stefanos and returned by boat after our meal and the cost of the boat taxi was 5E per person return - it made the evening more special for us - my son in law loved every minute.

Coming to Rhoda at end of August for 2nd time. I wonder if anyone could help with one of tavernas we visited, about 4 years ago. It was on the main road, quite near and on the same side as Aphrodite htl. I think it was before some apartments and painted green. I had a lamb dish, in a large pot with a lid, it was delicious and we went back about 3 times during the fortnight. It had a Greek name and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There were a row of tables overlooking the street but no outside seating.
I assume it's still there but has it changed owners and got a new name? I can't see it mentioned in reviews or any forum posts.

If it was next to the pool area of the Afroditi then it was called Odysseus at that time, it's new name with it's new owners is Pretino Steki. pete.

Yes it does look like that's the one I mean. Is the food still good? Is it a Greek menu? It was always busy when we were there, we sometimes had to wait for a table.

If you want a real treat and real Greek meal I can fully recommend O Arambas, across from Tropicana and next to the new sports bar. We ate there 3 times, once with a Greek and his family. Food is absolutely fresh, so if you want fast food avoid. The entire menu is not always available so another sign it is fresh.
