That reminds me of when we first started going to Roda back in 1978 when we used to stay in Roda beach hotel (Mitses) you could walk past golden sands on the beach to the village. Are we going back in time to the old days with these low tides or is it just the winter months ?

will keep my fingers crossed that the forecast is wrong and you get to enjoy the kites on Monday .... now if only I could think of a tune "Let's go fly a kite ...."
regards, Kath.

It looks as though you have had consistently high pressure for several weeks, Pete. It happened two winters ago when, at some times, I reckon that the sea level was as much as 1 metre below normal. As soon as the pressure dropped for a few days, the level came right back up again. On one day, you could actually walk to those rocks where Rik moors his boats and not get wet feet.

It has been fine & dry for the last 2 weeks, it rained yesterday and the forcast is for more rain over the next 2/3 days, I'll pop down later to see if the lower pressure has had an effect. pete.

It took several days of low pressure or maybe even a couple of weeks before the sea levels returned to normal last time, but I guess it is inevitable. I'm sure the new stretch of beach won't disappear before Kathara Deftera and there will be some kites flown whatever the weather. Monday, of course, marks the start of Lent and many local people will begin their fast. It marks the first day of the seven weeks that end on Easter Day - this year on April 20th. If you have ever thought of coming to Roda for Easter, there is still time - 49 days, in fact!.

I can't help but chuckle at those pictures............if they were the holiday brochure illustrations there probably wouldn't be many visitors to Roda :-)

Don't panic, in a few weeks time the beach will be cleaned up, all the winter storm's seaweed will be gone and the sunbeds will be out, oh yes, and the sea will be back pete.

I didn't mean that post to sound as if the beach always looks like that gremlindog more that it's amazing how hard everyone works to make it look so beautiful for the start of the season. Don't panic.......it will be fabulous :-)

The beach has been cleaned as far as I can see. It's just that it's low tide.

Jackie is right - the beach has been cleaned and levelled for 'Clean Monday.' During the winter months, all excess rainwater carves out many runnels in the sand and it is quite spectacular. There is no point in the council acting much before the start of May as the last of the spring weather can destroy their hard work. Many might think that the council is acting a little too late, but it does make sense.

This was how the beach was cleaned up in mid-April three years ago in readiness for the summer season.
