Our next exploration of this truly beautiful island again saw us heading towards Paleo but turning off before we got there to check out the area to the south.we passed through the village of Gardelades and on to Liapades with it's small pebbly beach.... We then headed inland and passed through the villages of Kanakades, Marmaro and Giannades, all very picturesque and stopped for a cool drink in Giannades where there is a lovely village common area with lots of benches and great views out over the top end of the Ropa Valley... Next we called at the little beach resort of Ermones, again very pretty with a hotel perched on the side of a very steep cliff, luckily for their guests there is a lift up & down to the beach... Our next port of call was Mirtiotissa beach, commom sense was telling me that the drive down and the angle of descent together with the condition of the so called road meant it was time to park up & walk but with true grit and determination (IDIOT!) I carried on driving along the narrowest steepest "road" I 've ever been on, this so called road abruptly ended with very little warning, the drive back up was frightening to say the least but the views were worth it in the end, the road was so steep & the surface so bad that we rolled back a couple of times and in the end Debbie had to get out & I just floored it in first gear, shut my eyes & went for it! the end of the road! With my nerves now in shreds we moved on to the golden sands of Glifada beach, what a joy to drive down to on a tarmacked gently sloping road, cooled down with a Cornetto on the warm sand... Our final stop was in the village of Pelekas where we discovered " Kaiser's Throne", I remember Bev recommending a visit to here a while ago, what can I say, this has to be a "must do" for anyone who hasn't been, the views are absolutely fantastic, you can see all over the island from here... We then dropped down into the Ropa Valley for a peaceful drive back up north, all in all a great day out. When we decided to retire & move out here some of our friends said that we would be bored with nothing to do - not on your nelly! pete.

Brilliant photos Pete. Glad I wasn't there on your drive up and down that hill, I would've been a nervous wreck!!
Kaisers Throne is on my list of places to go in April so glad you've confirmed it's worth doing.

Fab pics Pete & Nicki, even though we've been to nearly most of these places it's still nice to others peoples shots. Hiring a car is one of the best things anyone can do in Corfu. There is some absolutely fantastic scenery and we are starting to plan to visit more places next year.

Excellent photo's Pete we to have driven down some scary roads that at first glance look ok until you realise they are not what you expected but it all adds to the thrill. I say to Sue well the locals use it so why can't we. Famous last words. bye the way did you come across that big pink villa I was asking about in a previous post it was somewhere in the region that you did your trip ? never did find it again. Gil

Hi Gil, you're going to have to be more specific than that, I must pass dozens of large pink villas every time we go out. pete.

Hi Pete, When you went through Liapades did you notice if the Cricketers Arms was still there? Used be a place to stop off and have a Corfiot Ginger Beer, or any beer really!
Cheers, Malc

Yeah, that day Pete took us out, we must've passed at least 10 pink villas. Pink must be the in colour!

Hi Pete Yes so true I should be a bit more precise. It's a very large pink villa set in it's own very large grounds set amongst the Cyprus trees. It featured in one of those buying a house abroad programmes and the presenter as they do used it as her mystery house. We came across it on one of our lets see where that goes roads jaunts we stopped on a bend to look at the view and could see it in amongst the trees but for the life of me cannot remember where. So we will have to have another drive around to try and find it.
