Hi All, I just joined the forum because I'm moving to Roda next summer (exact date to be determined) and I'd like to feel I know some people before I get there. I'm an American from New Jersey who married a Greek while I was at college. We lived in Greece for ten years (Athens) and visited Corfu where my husband is from, during the summers. We moved back to the States are now in the process of retiring. Our house in Roda is in the process of being upgraded to a year-round home. What do you do in Roda? How did you end up there? What's good about it as a home? Thanks, Elise

There aren't many on the forum that live in Roda. Most of us just holiday there year after year.

Thanks for the reply Jacks. In fact, I wanted to ask if anyone lives in Roda full-time. Will I be lonely off-season? Also, I will need a car or some form of transportation for getting around Corfu and even to Roda as I'm not a big walker and we live East of the village near the Venus Apts. I may need to get to Acharavi sometimes as well. We have one car but I don't want to share with my husband! Any ideas, anyone? Elise

Hi Elise, We own a piece of land about 600 meters inland from the Venus complex and am hoping to retire out there and to have a house built there very soon, there are many ex pats who live out there all year, although this forum is made up mainly of regular holidaymakers many of whom return year after year. Looking forward to meeting you at some point in the future, pete.

Hi Elise, have a look at Facebooks Corfu Grapevine page. It is a page for ex-pats who live on Corfu. We have made friends with a Corfiot/ American and his American wife, they live in Agarafi not far from Roda. We met John and Shannon whilst holidaying in Roda. They will be glad to help I'm sure and that page is excellent for information. Bev

Thank you Bev and Anita! I will check out Corfu Grapevine. I may be away from the forum for a few days because we're about to get Hurricane Sandy in the Northeast of the U.S. and expect to lose power. I'll be back soon. Thanks again for sharing info. Elise

Let's hope Elise gets her power back sooner rather than later. 'Sandy' was an ironic choice of name given the pictures we've seen of the New Jersey shoreline; the streets transformed into beaches.

Hi All, I'm just back in my home after Hurricane Sandy. I live in Northern New Jersey and we lost power for three days but did not get much rain, so no flooding. Our shore towns have been devastated. One of my kids lives in a town on the Hudson River. They had five feet of water in every street for three days. It finally receded today and he was able to leave. 8.4 million households had no electricity, which also means no heat or hot water. They say this was the worst storm the Northeast Atlantic coast of the U.S. has ever suffered. I can't wait to move to Roda!!! Elise
