Among Roda's many visitors, there must be hundreds of cricket fans and many of you will know that Corfu also has cricket teams of it own. The question is, is there anyone involved with a European cricket club or with youth coaching in their own country who would be interested in getting guest teams to Corfu to play the locals? What an opportunity! ;D
If anyone can help, please let me know.

As you might know, Steve, we are a `soccer`and` tennis`family, but for you I had a look on the internet for the dutch cricket association , www.kncb.nl and I found a cricketclub (only founded last year) near Apeldoorn in a town called Zutphen , they have a website too: www.gelrecricket.nl. Do they need a club that performs at the highest level, or recreative players ?? The champion of Holland 2008 is H.C.C. from The Hague : www.konhcvv.nlLet me know if you need more information.

Hi Petra - I believe that there may be at least 8 Dutch cricket clubs and we will be looking next year for teams of youngsters to visit Corfu to play this year's champions. Weather permitting, I will be able to give you more information in one week's time and I will announce beforehand what is happening when I get more details myself. If you can help in any way, it would be very much appreciated.

Hi Steve, Yesterday I received a message from Mrs. Marike D i c k m a n n , Cricket Development Officer of the KNCB, the Dutch cricket association. This is the translation of her message, she thanks me and she says: “ The offer to come and play cricket games on the island of Corfu, is very attractive. At the moment I am not sure if a tour to Corfu will fit in the program of the national youth teams. I will put the question to Mr. Roland Lefebvre, the federal youth coach , and will get back to you a.s.a.p. Also I will bring the information into the central meeting with all of the secretaries of the Dutch cricket clubs on Monday , 19th of January. If they are interested in a cricket tour to Corfu, they will contact you directly.” ( sorry about the name of mrs. D , it was changed into thingymann )

Thanks for that, Petra, we will await the reply with interest. We'll be able to check again with Alex soon about how many teams are booked in for the 2009 season and we now have direct contact with the Greek Cricket Federation.

Yesterday I received another mail from mrs D. of the KNCB: "Unfortunately a crickettour to Greece doesn't fit into the program of the national teams of the Dutch cricket association. I will inform all the cricketclubs with youthteams. If they are interested, they will contact you (meaning me ;)P) directly." I am afraid for me it ends here ( unless the clubs are interested).....hope chris or others will be more succesfull in the UK. petra

If you are a cricket fan and you are coming to Corfu next week, then don't forget that the island is hosting six teams under the Cricket Europe organisation. The games will be played between 7th & 12th September on the cricket ground at Gouvia Marina. European Cricket Championships in Corfu 7-12 September
The town of Corfu will be this year in the center of international developments in sport and was selected by the European Cricket Federation to host the European Championship Cricket Men Open 2009. The league is organized by the Greek Cricket Federation and the Municipality of Corfu, who have set the stage for a successful organization and international visibility of the island. The matches will take place at the premises of EL.O.K in Gouvia Marina, from 7 to 12 September. The choice of Corfu town to host is in recognition of long-term relationship with the sport of cricket. The Championships will involve six countries, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey and Sweden, represented by their national teams.
This report is taken from the "Corfu Today", dated 4th September. I had already edited this for the post, sorry for double input Steve. This is a highly organised event, and should be worth a good watch by all Cricket Fans. I only wish I could be there for some of the matches. We all hope it is a great success for Corfu. But no team from England.[/i]
