There was a near disaster this afternoon as a young girl crossed from one of the beachside terraces to enter a bar. A car was heading west out of the village, occupied by two young women, and it was clearly going too fast. The driver was late reacting, the car stood on it's nose, the girl twisted away, and she was missed by an inch. It seems that the two women, representatives of a major travel company, have been asked on numerous occasions to slow down. The driver said she was 'only doing 20 mph', but that is excessive considering she must have accelarated rapidly over the 50 metres or so from the Dolphin. A major argument ensued with the locals, which resulted in a drink being thrown at the driver in disgust. It should also be noted that the car was actually travelling the wrong way in a one way street. If you are driving, please avoid the centre of the village during busy periods, make sure you follow the signs, keep your speed down, and everyone will be happy. The incident took place just beyond where the motorcyclist is in this photo - the car was travelling towards the camera - the one-way sign is very clear.

Very irresponsible by the driver. While we were out there last week, a local looking man in his 30's / 40's came past the brandy shop on a powerful motorbike heading towards Acharavi. He opened the throttle and accelerated up to about 70mph outside the Coral Hotel, sheer madness! I won't tell you what Olga shouted at him but it was a rather rude greel word beginning with 'M' If someone had stepped out of the Cral hotel or Nino's to cross to the beach it would have been carnage. Stupid, Stupid man.

Were the Reps in the original post reported. Should have been. Lessons need to be learnt.

I am in touch with the operator Chris - but they don't make it easy to get through to the right person. The girls were in the village again today, this time in two cars squeezing past a truck delivering to Roda Park. Why they need to travel this route is beyond me - they have no accommodation to visit in the old road and it is not really a thoroughfare in the summer.

I'm of the opinion that these 'reps' should be named here on this Forum. Perhaps not their personal names but at least the Tour Company which they are 'representing'. Their irresponsible and potentially unsafe behaviour must also reflect in their attitude towards the clients of that Tour Company. Surely if that company realises that their reps. are bringing the company's name into disrepute, and that it is becoming public knowledge, then some form of urgent preventative action will be taken - "damage limititation"!

I can't believe this post is getting this much attention. I was also there that day and feel these girls were completely mistreated. Fair enough they were going down a one way street which to be fair is not clearly sign posted, but the girl ran into the road straight in front of them! At the end of the day it is a road and the parents should not have let their child run into the road. This was very irresponsible of them and not the drivers fault. So you all need to pipe down as realistically you know nothing. Get a grip and enjoy your holiday instead of moaning.

Such 'guest' comments are not even worthy of a response Kaz.
I hope "Admin" will soon remove the insulting post?

NO YOU JUST ALL HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO!!! like margaret holmes said enjoy your holiday instead of moan and yes children should not be runnin in streets, back in my day my mother would of clipped ME round the ear if I ran infront of a car, and as for throwing drinks over a driver this is completley unacceptable, my friend who lives in Roda heard about this incident and it was an accident and 2 grown men were threatening a lady this is not acceptable behaviour in my eyes!! get a grip people, build a bridge and get over it!

The incident happened within one metre of my feet as I was sitting reading by the door of Skouna and I saw everything. The girl was not running before she saw the car, the car was going far too fast and had seemingly done so several times before, the girls had been told and do know about the one-way system because they live by the Church, and there was only one man shouting not two. It is entirely possible that the girl's parents scolded her later, but it was such a close call they were just glad that she survived - I think I would have done the same under the circumstances. In terms of 'getting a life' - well we did that day, and thank goodness for that. I also witnessed the incident, and in my opinion I think we need to focus on that the little girl was not injured in anyway and as It was a road the parents should take some of the blame as parents we no that you cant take your eyes of your child for a second would also like to reiterate that there was two men shouting abusively at the young lady the father of the child I can understand as he was obviously in shock even if he overstepped the mark saying he was going to punch the young lady but as for the Greek owner of the restaurant to throw a drink over her that was disgusting unacceptable behavior I now understand what people mean when they say that Greek men do not no how to treat women, very ungentlemanly of him.

Many guests visit this site, some occasionally post a comment. Today within the space of two hours four guests post on the same topic ( some aggressively which is totally at odds with the other 99.99999% of posts made on any topic). Does anyone else suspect a link between the guests and dare I say possibly the occupants of the car ?
