I thought Roda was looking for a more mixed audience for Roda but today I read this on Facebook: "Little Britain Supermarket Corfu" "now open in Roda(At the main traffic lights - Across the road from the Pharmacy) Take advantage of our February Specials!!! 20% off Warburtons Muffins, Pancakes & Potato Cakes Aunt Bessie's Yorkshire Puddings - buy one get one free 20% off all Lashford Award Winning sausages Bestin 2 Litre Lemonade, Orangeade, Cherryade - buy one get one free" Maybe I should consider opening a Dutch shop as well, Pipitsa just loved the "stroopwafels" I brought her

I think the shop is aimed mainly at ex-pats, Petra. I can't see many tourists venturing inside.

Ex-pats only using it Steve? Why won't visitors use it, they go to English style pubs for their John Smiths and Pukka Pies, wander out looking for English Breakfasts, Sunday Roasts, Fish and Chips. Being an ex-pat in England I still look for my Vegemite, ask for Red Cross parcels of Aussie goodies when family and friends visit from Australia. When in Greece though the produce is so fab I use local. Oh dear I can hear the brickbats from here. :-) Bev

I have to go into the shop tomorrow, Bev, to deliver something for someone - so I will have a look. As far as I know, it is mainly a freezer centre as I reported some time ago - I can't see how that can be aimed at visitors and it is open all year around, even when there are no tourists. Maybe I'm drawing the wrong conclusions ...

I would assume it's aimed more at ex-pats too, Steve. I can't think of anyone i've ever met on holiday, in Roda that would use it - especially if it's like a big Iceland!!!! lol

Is this another 'change of use' of the premises which were the "George & Dragon" several years ago?

I did say in my post that I expected 'mainly' ex-pats to be using the new shop and, having now visited it, I still think so. For the shop to survive, it is going to need repeat business all-year-round to sustain it, and maybe any additional tourist business will provide the profit. It is in a main road position in the old George & Dragon building, Chris, which places it in a good location for locals, but just on the perimeter of the village as far as visitors are concerned. A bit like the excellent clothes shop across the road which few tourists ever venture into.
For those who are genuinely self-catering, who want their old favourites and don't want to use local Greek products or equivalents, then there is a fair range of goods that will be instantly recognisable. There are several freezers in the shop, but Thomas tells me that they consider themselves to be a supermarket. I rarely buy British products so I cannot be sure of prices elsewhere, but I do think that they are cheaper than the mainstream supermarkets in Acharavi for the items they import.

Greek supermarkets do sell bread specially for toast, John - it's wrapped, but you do need to get the right one as there are many sweet breads that look similar. I don't know if the new shop sells bread - I will ask sometime.

Any supermarket sells wholemeal sliced loaves. That's what I use for toast or sarnies when in Roda. Dont need to trek all the way up to the x-roads for Warburtons. You have further to go than I do from the Makis John or will you send Jackie?
