As a dyed in the wool Labour supporter I never thought I would do this but I must defend William Hague (sorry Mam and Dad) but if anyone actually watched the Andrew Marr show on Sunday morning they would confirm that the Daily Mail have totally misrepresented what he actually said! Why anyone would read the Daily Mail and expect to be reading "facts" is also beyond me.
regards, Kath.

The problem is Kath, that many people do read the Daily Mail and they believe everything that is reported in it. A lot of what they report is misleading, but people will be cancelling their holidays as a result. When I was searching for the report, I found similar texts in several other publications, presumably syndicated by the newspaper or some associated agency. None of this helps Greece, which is being unfairly represented.

Unfortunately John, the Daily Mail attracts more than 2m readers per day, and is second in readership only to the Sun. It takes me about five minutes to read the Mail - cover to cover - looking for something truthful, original and newsworthy. I'm sure this will offend a few, but it does not reflect the real world and what it is currently reporting about Greece is par for the course.

By chance, I came across the following article this evening which I think is good news . . . Tourist arrivals up 12.3% in first half of 2013, revenues also up by 18.1% Greece received close to 5.5 million visitors in the first half of the year, up 12.3% on the same period of 2012.
The rise in the number of tourists also led to an 18.1% increase in revenues from tourism.
Visitors from the European Union spent a total of 1.9 billion euros, which was 7.7% up on 2012. Non-EU visitors spent 1.3 billion euros, an increase of 37.7% on last year.
(Source: ekathimerini.com , Monday October 21, 2013)Then searched for some specific information pertaining to Corfu itself, but could only find Greek Airport passenger arrival figures, although they too seem pretty good (15% increase when compared to 2012) . . . The listing for all Greek airports' figures can be seen here: Greek Airport Arrivals DataChris

Not all these passengers stay in Corfu after landing they move off elsewhere from the port almost immediately.

I agree with smg - these figures are deceiving as many are 'en route' to other islands or cruise ships. The numbers do not equate to what is happening in the resorts.
