I dread to think what kind of ''Eel'' this was Jacks !!!! I hope it wasn't a ''Troouser Trout '' I must admit that I have been chased out of a kitchen by a very large Conger Eel which, in my defence, I thought had expired !! Conger eel steaks, cooked slowly in the oven are delicious. However, this particular eel, which had been given to me the previous evening, was still very much alive. It obiously either did not like the look of me or (more likely) objected to the sudden influx of very hot water into the sink. This tale has a happy ending for all ( except my wallet) The Conger was returned alive (and very kicking) to the sea and my friends and I went to the local 'Chippy' .

LOL! It was definitely straight from the sea, Johno!
I'd give eel a try, as long as you didn't tell me what it was b4 hand.

God, John, Please don't! My biggest ever fear is of snakes & eels are as close to snakes as you can get. I remember a couple of years back, when I was in Roda, friend's - and I use that term loosely, after this - bought a plastic snake (must've been about 3ft long) & hid it under my towel at the pool, so that when I lifted it, i'd get a fright. I think they got the bigger fright, cos I ran the length of the pool in a 2nd flat & ended up my apartment being sick & having heart palpatations & almost fainted. They hadn't realised just HOW terrified of them I was. I can't even look at pics of them. If I'm reading a newspaper & there's a pic of one, I have to get someone to turn the page for me, while I shut my eyes. Even typing about them here, atm is giving me the creeps.

Thank you for letting me know.. I wont go out on a boat for fear of being pushed in by hubby.. He is looking for the perfect murder ( hope he is joking when he says that ) We just wanted to go out one day and have a fish and hopefully catch 1 or 2 and cook it up for our dinner.. Jacks I agree with you no EELS or SNAKES ..

Drifting through the Forum these Posts bring to mind the fact, little known perhaps, that Eels and the other things ( sorry Jacks ) are amongst the most healthy foods around. They have practically no fat and have a very high protein content because they are almost totally muscle. I have eaten both on several occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed them. Sea 'thingys' ( again sorry Jacks ) although among the most venomous creatures in the world, are especially nutritious , living , as they do , off a diet of small sea creatures ( shrimp, prawns, immature shellfish ) and are a true delight to the taste buds. Feeling peckish now but a ham sandwitch will have to do .......

Thanks for that, Tony, and I thought Greek entrail soup was difficult to stomach - that's what happens to you when you support West Ham! I can enjoy rollmops, but I agree with John - everything but eels .. Steve

I'd probably be ok with eel, if it was dead & you didn't tell me what it was I was eating before-hand! lol
I do LOVE all kinds of seafood - don't think I've came across anything yet, that I haven't liked.
