Thanks smg, this is a topic that affects Roda and will continue to do so whether we like it or not. It would be good to get back on track. I'm not sure what 'so playground' means kezzer, but these are serious issues which have been distorted by anger. If people on here are getting personal, no wonder there are protests around Europe!
Anyone care to discuss the problem seriously?

hi Jeanp I think if you read my post again you will see that I did not atrribute the comment to Chris I merely said he used it as a means of support for his argument.

smg....it was a means of support to what I posted, nothing else.......
steve.....I also think it should be discussed seriously, not like kids in the 'playground' calling each other, surely people on here are old enough and sensible enough to have a proper discussion and/or disagreement without resorting to such childish tit for tat.
Everybody has there views on this serious subject, but instead of all falling out over it, put your point across and then 'agree to disagree'

Chris you are so wrong. Your posts were aggressive and in my view provocative and when you use such weak comments as 'nice one mum' as a sign of support I think you show that you know that you probably lost this one. Yes we love Roda but there is a world beyond the crossroads and sometimes this has to be acknowledged on this forum. I am sorry smg, but I did not use, or refer to that comment. My comment referred to all the posts relating to the matter of Private Messages. I for one am trying to get back on track to the forum, and do not wish to continue this problem. Can we now let it rest, and get on with the matters of Roda. Thanks.

steve it has and always will be serious ,people in the uk and greece having to endure drops in their standard of living will have a knock -on effect ,on all aspect of daily life and in my opinion for what its worth, the first thing to be affected will be holidays ,people will seek out cheap holidays outsde the eurozone. which will obviously affect greece and ultimately roda ,which none of us want. i strongly believe this is not the fault of the vast majority of both british and greek people but they are being asked to bear the burden i reiterate 23%vat is okay if you earn £50000 plus but not if you earn minimum wage . if that is reducing it to the playground show me where the slide is .

Not noticed anything particular yet, John, but I expect the will be power cuts on the way somewhere. There is a general strike being called for on 19th, which will affect everything, including flights I guess ...

As you probably know, John, many things are controlled by DEH, the electricity company. The equivalent of rates, television, house completions - they control the lot ...
The latest tax was initially alleged to be a one-off tax (until the next time, of course) - then I heard it was for two years based on square metres of floor area, then there was a date given which I can't remember, and now someone tells me they have received the electricity bill and there is no mention of it ..
One accommodation owner told me it would cost him €10,000 and I guess this is one of the reasons for the strikes.
On a broader scale, Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, has said that there is no question of Greece leaving the eurozone, but one correspondent fears that she will turn around later and say that she "did all she could to save Greece -- but Greece is a special case; a state that cannot be governed. Immediately after that she will turn to her voters and tell them that she is punishing the odd one out, but at the same time will urge them to dig into their pockets to rescue Spain, Italy and so on."
In the meantime, 60 German industry officials have been taking a look at opportunities for foreign direct investment in Greece - well there's a surprise! After that, maybe it will be Portugal, Spain and Italy to get the chop and the 'foreign' investment. Sounds like the thin end of the wedge to me ..
And where does the UK stand in all of this? Household income pressures are being blamed for a drop in spending on holidays abroad and, from the comments, it appears that the UK press is promoting Greece's problems vociferously. You know more about it than I do ... Is it possible that the UK government is behind this to keep spending in-house.
Random 'top-of-the-head' thoughts, John, straying a long way from your question, but maybe they all have a bearing ....

my concerns was regarding apartment owners, 10,000 euros over 6 months is a price maybe some cant pay , unless they pass it on , ultimately to us .most certainly the press and goverment are promoiting uk hols, but in the goverments case while they, holiday abroad .

If we create an artificial unit called the 'bed night,' John, maybe a particular accommodation has 1000 per season (45 couples for an average of eleven nights) and it would cost them an extra €10 per bed, per night to pay this tax. Clearly this is not realistic and it would be impossible to recover even a small percentage of that from their clients. The alternative is to close, or is there something I am missing?
