The can of worms has been opened!! Well said sthelenssaint regarding overtime pay, safety at work etc,if employers had their own way there would be none of this. I think we should call it a day because talking about Politics & Religion ends of in people falling out

sthelenssaint, it is obvious to me you are out to cause an argument as other seem to think so since your comments. As I said from the beginning this was my opinion which I am entitled to as are others. I will not apologise that it goes against your ethos. It does however prove one thing. Unions and those who support them, just inflate the issues to justify their own. To save grace on this forum, I am saying no more.

I think that saying sainthelenssaint is 'out to cause trouble' is somewhat unfair, Chris. His opinion differs from yours, but that is as far as it goes. The forum exists for all opinions to be presented, but please don't throw down a gauntlet that will unreasonably generate any personal conflict between two valuable contributors.

I have no problem with politics on the forum, kaz, especially if it involves Greece which seems to be the scapegoat for Europe's mistakes and the US's influence - but I will make a plea to everyone - try not to descend into personal abuse!

This has been the most interesting topic on the forum for a long time. Yes it got personal, which is unfortunate, but both sides strongly believed in their views and would probably share a beer and shake hands given the chance. However it's a forum and we don't all agree, so why should we put a stop to it. If we are not careful we will fall into the trap of going in the opposite direction and giving the impression that everything about Greece and therefore Roda are perfect, which clearly neither are. Keep stating your views but try not personalise them

I have been watching this thread for a day or so now, and got to admit at times I wanted to scream at the pc (at chris`s comments) that that is unfair and don't tar everyone with the same brush. My office (I'm a civil servant) was one of the ones effected by the strike. I opted to go into work, not because I don't believe in what the strike was about but because I had a percentage of my staff coming in,and I felt I owed it to them to be there when they arrived (as a manager I manned the door so that someone was there to greet those who came in and also ensure the picket stayed peaceful). However had I not been in a position of responsibility I too would of striked(I am no longer a member of tu, I was for a number of years but left as I progressed up the career ladder as I found that the only interactions I have with tu is when they are representing staff at disciplinarys which I am chairing and I was paying about ten pound a month for this), my staff that did strike are certainly not weak people, I have a lot of respect for them~i have striked myself previously back when the pension war was on in 2005, if anything I did question myself if I was being weak for crossing the picket .there are some strikes that I don't agree with, don't get me wrong and even when in the tu if I didn't agree with the strike then I wouldn't partake, but this is one that I think is justified~for 15 years I have paid into a works pension and the pension has been what has kept me there when the goings got tough and the husband has said maybe its time for a job change.the last two years I have had a pay freeze, and whilst having the same freeze I am now going to be paying out an extra £60 a month so in effect having a paydrop.I love to do as some have said in the media and invest my money in a private pension, but with all my out goings (we bought a house in 2007 so the mortgage alone is 860, the hubby spends 300 a month to commute to/from work~hes trying to get a job nearer home as even with a paydrop it works out better for us) add on the usual bills and maintenance to the house, there isn't much left for another pension, and if I am just managing to make the books balance with mine and nicks wage, imagine how my staff must be on lower wages especially those with just one wage coming in.

in reply to your pm i am still a trade unionist and ,yes i have been on strike in the past not only in my own unions or workmates cause[and i make no apologies ] but for ambulence personel ,nurses and yes miners . iam not a big mouth as you infer , just someone who has principles .you pm me because steve believed you were wrong in posting a statement regarding my motives on supporting the rights of workers, you choose to continue to press your hackneyed veiw via my pm. let me apologise to forum members who assumed this matter was closed but i would rather reply on open forum where members can see what is being said. i would ask you to do the same .
