I rent ourTV and would dearly like to send it back for the next month but her in doors wants to try to find something worth watching instead of the football. Still anything is better than the football. I might even try watching paint dry

I do apologise. I have therefore deleted my post on this subject. Although I thought that it being a Sports Section, albeit Roda Sport, I would imagine that this competition would be of concern to a few from both Greece and the UK. Obviously not. Apologies once again.

Last friday I was so happy my son could watch the worldcup on his own tv set upstairs in his bedroom, so I could watch the beautiful movie `Captain Corelli´s mandolin`, a beautiful story about Kefalonia ( one of the other Ionian islands of Greece) in WWII . Did anyone happen to read the original book by Louis de Bernieres?

Chris please forgive me - I was not having a go at you - I am (believe it or not) a great footy fan (although as I support The Toon that could be open to debate). It's just that everywhere you look / read / listen it is wall to wall world cup - it even got a mention on The Archers of all places - that good old tale of country folk.
best wishes, Kath.

Shock! Horror! Surely someone didn't have the gall to mention the W***D C*P on the hallowed RodaOnline website did they? Po Po Po!!!! Anyone would think that 90% of Greek bars in Roda and everywhere else in Corfu are going to be showing the games, hoping for a little bit of extra trade that these type of events tend to bring in, heaven forbid!
And if that wasn't enough, another long time member even had the audacity to mention Kefalonia, which isn't even in Corfu, let alone in Roda, and a book which isn't on the subject of Roda, and an author who doesn't come from Roda and isn't even Greek!!!!! Whatever is this website coming to? I would cancel my membership, if I could be bothered to sign up to it!!

xaxaxa "captain capellos"... I DID try to find a link with Kerkyra.... Kefalonia IS one of the IONIAN islands and for the record ,another book that you could read that is about Kerkyra,is: "The Venetian House" written by Mary Nickson. On the cover there is a picture of the Venetian house, looks a bit like the old building (KHP) at the beach in Roda .....and again ......the circle is round (not sure if you use this expression in english) ps; explain to me please captain, what does "audacity" mean ps; what I like about your comment is, that you seem to like our forum enough to visit it from time to time....I think you should join because you are a rodafan as well I think! but then you would be considered 1 of "us" xaxa....(if you can't beat them, join them ) We all want what's best for Roda, don't we?!

Guest ... (edited by admin) ... leave us to confer in "whatever", we know who we are talking to and if there is a problem we will be notified...............and my friends who went to Kefalonia also go to Roda 3 times a year............Shock Horror.........how many times have you been ?? Sorry to have infuriated you enough to have your post edited Kaz, I too have visited Kefalonia, read Captain Corelli and seen the film and for the record, on average I visit Roda 3 times a WEEK! Petra, Thank you for the book recommendation, (I mean this sincerely BTW) I will look out for it, I do like to read anything with a Greek theme, but nothing too "romantic" or "girly" if you know what I mean. The definition of audacity from a dictionary website Main Entry: au·dac·i·ty Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural au·dac·i·ties Etymology: Middle English audacite, from Latin audac-, audax Date: 15th century 1 : the quality or state of being audacious: as a : intrepid boldness b : bold or arrogant disregard of normal restraints <had the audacity to defy his boss> 2 : an audacious act —usually used in plural <her worst audacities did not seem to surprise him — Edith Wharton> Hope this helps a little. Yes, believe it or not I do like to pay the odd visit to your website, but probably not for the same reasons most of you do, and also, I do want the best for Roda, and all resorts on Corfu. I don't think I will bother to join the site just now though, somehow I think I may rub more than my fair share of members up the wrong way, I will just stay on the side lines and add the odd comment now and then and stay a closet Rodafan!

I never could have believed that my totally innocent and "tongue in cheek" comment would have provoked such a response - particularly from our "guest" who I suspect many of us Roda regulars actually know!
kind regards, Kath.

Be assured Kath, your comments regarding the World Cup did not effect my decision to delete. It was comments regarding the retaining of Roda only comments that made my decision.
However, I am intrigued at some of the comments that have been raised, but, still cannot detach myself from the fact that the World Cup involves every nation and (virtually) everyone.

Captain Capellos Mandolin, don't you dare stay on the sidelines. The forum is a living, breathing entity which needs to expand and grow to survive. Different views/ideas are essential for this growth. The fact that you (or anyone else ) has a different view or slant on a subject will at times lead to 'lively discussion/comment'. This has to be a good sign that Forum members think for themselves and don't just ''go with the flow''. The intervention of 'admin' is, unfortunately a necessary evil to protect the more delicate readers of Forum ( ME ! ), but it goes to show that, even censored, the message gets through ! Keep up the good work Skipper (if I may be so bold ) and , of course, you Kaz (no encouragement necessary I'm sure !) and I hope to see a new member of Forum shortly.
