After reading glowing reports regarding Roda as a resort we decided to book a apartment and came over--our first time in Corfu.Apart from the weather being rather unkind, nobody can predict that--our apartment was what one can only describe as very basic. With 2 young children to cater for and the inclement weather and trying to cook a meal on a 2 ring stove was a laugh!!!To make matters worse on the night of the storm our beds were saturated and the electrics fused.I did not realise that Roda was without any real Greek culture---who wants bingo, artist impressionists---you can can stay in the UK for that.Saying this we found the people friendly. My final thoughts are that accomodation is is dire need of updating---though i gather some have done this.We shall come to Corfu again but certainly not to English Roda

Guest, most people on this site don't think Roda's bad. that's your view It's not perfect but I feel you have probably allowed your negative attitude to spoil an opportunity. It is a resort that caters for a large influx of English people but deviod of Greek culture? I think not, did you visit the church? The ancient ruins next to the Roda inn? Did you bother to try and get to know any of the people that you found so friendly or were they simply there to serve? Did you go to a 'Greek night?' I don't know how old your children are but I'm sure that they would have enjoyed joining in . You don't say how much you paid for your accomodation but basic is often the norm, most people know this before they go and plan accordingly. It's a pity you didn't enjoy your visit I hope you are more successful next time.

I'm Scottish & I don't find Roda very Englafied! Guest, you didn't say WHAT apartments you stayed in. I think ANYWHERE you go in Europe that the entertainment will be bingo, artists, impressionists. Actually never seen an impressionist in Roda....but if I didn't - and I WOULDN'T want to see them, I would go to another bar. Also, you'll find that MOST Greek studios/apartments don't have full cooking facilities in them. I wouldn't expect a leaky roof though & would've complained to the owners, while I was there. Cos the reps never do anything to help.

We have been coming to Corfu for the past 15 years since my daughter was 6 months old, and have stayed in some good and not so good apartments. Ok yes resorts like Roda,Sidari have a lot of British influence, but there is a lot of traditional Corfiot culture not too far away from these resorts. We go to Roda and still enjoy the Greek tavernas in the resort, and the people who are very hospitable, and that is why we now have a holiday home on the island. Everyone to their own, if you want English culture then you can get it, but like I said within a very short distance you can go to the likes of Afionas/Karousades etc and sample real traditional Corfiot culture. People are different and it's great to argue, I just wish that the few who criticize Corfu could have a good look around, before judging what we believe is the best island in the world. Roda see you in 60 days!!!!!!

Wherever anyone goes on holiday, including Corfu, one will find a British element to a resort. Why, because we as Brits put it there. Therefore, in my opinion it is up to us to irradicate, remove, or accept that element in to what we want as a holiday.
I personally tend to stay away from the UK influences to the best of my ability (not always possible), and will always eat at local Tavernas, in particular where the locals eat. I will go to bars where there is a greater element of a Greek influence, or a local Kafeneon.
Again in my opinion, there is so much information available to us, one can, and could have read up on any resort prior to booking to ascertain what that resort olds. Or as already pointed out, use the resort as your base, and venture out, and in most cases not too far either.
To put a resort down on ones first visit, and without expressing in more detail the faults (if any) is not fair. I would certainly recommend going again, but to make sure that you are aware of what is available within and close by. I noticed you referred to the use of the kitchen in your apartment. Obviously we do not know what your budget is or was, but it is safe to say it would have been just as cheap or cheaper to eat out, and probably enjoy more of the delights of Roda.
Do try again as soon as you can.

Dear Guest. Why did you not use the information available on the Forum? There are loads of apartments with pictures and details of costings from May through October. Of course some are basic but I have yet to be disappointed in any of them in my 18 stays in Roda. You can have 5 star at Pipitsa's if you wish. Indeed you can have whatever you wish in Roda all you have to do is ask and the people will be only to glad to help. Don't let one bad experience put you off.

Wouldn't like to tell you what our room was like when we first went to Roda in the late 80's....but it never put us off, we had a laugh about it and have been back every year since, cos we love the Greeks, their way of life, the friendliness of them...."One can still see if you look above The New Port, very top left, behind a wall which was called a "balcony" 6ft long by 1ft wide !!!!!..........all closed up

Dear guest, name your accomodation. Were you independent or package? I was horrified on my 1st arrival in Roda in 2006 by the English Bars, restaurant and entertainment. I had looked forward to going to a Greek Island for years and experiencing Greek culture 1st hand. Roda's peace and quiet and the lovely people won me over. We are going back for the 5th time in June and will still not be eating English breakfasts, roast dinners, English desserts, drinking English beer in English pubs. We have found lovely tavernas and nice bars that serve local drinks.

Good on yer Bev, that's what we do..EAT GREEK, then you will feel you are part of them (you still won't be able to speak fluent Greek, but we get by with the few words we know)
