well i know my immediate response to this question corfu hands down what about you?
I had the unfortunate experience of holidaying in crete earlier this year unfortunate being an understatement,we stayed in a lovely hotel in stalis on a half board basis that was the first mistake the meals were terrible there were no meals for my sisters children they survived on a buttered roll and a plate of chips every night for 2 weeks. The hotel itself was lovely with very friendly staff, but the location for me was a nightmare in the brochure it states 5 minute walk to resort centre, but for me it was 20 minutes due to me having a stick and being slower at walking not easy in 35 degrees.
The resort of stalis was horrendous you could not move for quabikes and mopeds there were no pavements,so we had to keep an eye on the children at all times. We were sick of people hastling us to go into their bars or restaurants and te price of a drink was awful. There was absolutely nothing for the kids to do so after a week they wanted to go home as did my sister and the trips they had on offer were daylight robbery.
This was my first and last holiday to crete,i always come to roda for my hols but my sister asked us to go to crete with her an experience which i will not be repeating.
At least coming to roda next week will compensate for our disastrous holiday.

Although I prefer Kerkyra, our holidays at Crete were nice too! I especially remember the small village of Agia Pelaghia (near Iraklio). We stayed at an appartment for 3 weeks ,at first we were afraid to get bored in the small village, but we didn't. The people of the tavernas and the supermarket were very nice people. On our last day there, our son, who was about 3 years old I think, was given a toy/ present by a girl working at the supermarket. And when we returned just for a day, two years later ( we were staying elsewhere) the people at the taverna (where we had a few dinners before) at Ag .Pelaghia still recognized us!!! But this was also about 14 ( and 12) years ago, so I am not sure (but hope ) it's still the same over there (like in Roda).

i have also been to crete and i have to say i had a very quite but nice holiday... however, once visited, corfu and roda in particular, Corfu has my heart, its the mix and the warmth of people, the welcome and the friendships... if you visit corfu you can see the whole island, crete is massive compared to it. there are ups and downs to crete but corfu ... its all ups! CORFU GETS MY VOTE

Three times in Roda, love the Park and Maggies. Others are good too. Exchange rate... Well, what do you think? After all, last year prices rose dramatically?

Hi Greecelvr - welcome to the forum! I am not sure what prices you are refering to, the price of holidays or the prices in the village? If it is the latter, then from a personal point of view, we have a weekly budget, which is far from excessive and has to include petrol, food and other expenses. In the eight years that we have been here, that budget has risen by just 20 Euros a week, and it was not increased last year. We do know that Roda Park, Crusoes Bar and many others did not increase their prices last year and in view of the financial situation across the globe this year, Maggies is introducing a menu to make your money go further. You may have also heard the rumours (see here for forum discussion) that the Euro may be de-valued in the near future, giving more Pounds to the Euro. We hope that you choose Corfu again this year!

We have had some wonderful holidays in Crete, staying at both Stalis, Rethymnon and Heraklion resorts such Agios Nikolias. I do have to say in agreement with Gailie, Stalis was somewhat overpowering, which made us wonder in the opposite direction of an evening. Needless to say, we visited Corfu, a few years ago now, and have to say, we love it more than Crete. So yes, Corfu has our vote.

We enjoyed our holiday in Stalis (apart from the quad bikes) 3 years ago but as we like to try a different place each year we have not returned. This year we will be holidaying in Roda for the second year running ...... I think this speaks volumes. It's Corfu for us.
Can't wait Andrea

if going to crete i would recommend going to elounda, is a beatiful location with lots of nice traditional restaraunts but still has a village atmosphere tho it is much larger than roda, that said have not been to roda for over 10 years looking forward to my return in july 2010. i hope its not changed too much as i have fond memories of my times there.

It would be Crete for me next time, Prices had increased alot since my last visit in Aug 2009 (just back). Though it will be Marmaris in Sept. for my second trip of the year so financially challenged Greece is to be a distant memory..
