As requested by Julie, this is for any new members, it was originally on the old site. We were caught up in the XL collapse recently, we had booked flight only on the Internet so we were not covered by A.B.T.A. or A.T.O.L.- BASICALLY WE HAD TO FIND OUR OWN WAY HOME. We started to hear of sky high prices for flights (if you could find one), people being stuck at Corfu airport without money food & clean clothes. The biggest problem of all was the total lack of any useful information, all the websites were a waste of time - telling us more or less that we were on our own! We ended up getting a ferry from Corfu to Venice, staying in Venice overnight and then flying with Ryanair to Liverpool the next day. I cannot stress enough the amount of help we had from the people of Roda, namely Dominique at Paradise Village, who let us stay an extra night at no charge. June at Benny's bar who let us use the Internet at no charge. Anita at Corfu Property Agency for her time and expertise booking our return on-line. Alan for getting up at 05.00 hrs to take us to the port. Everyone else for their best wishes and sympathy. I know that we would not have received this level of help & support anywhere else except Roda - can you imagine this happening in Spain ? I can't. Once again - thank you Roda & see you next year. Pete & Debbie.

Roda seems to be getting it's fair share of publicity on Radio 2 lately, following mention of Julie last week, an Irish gentleman from Kings Lynn on the Ken Bruce show this morning mentioned that that was where he liked to holiday.

I have to add that I noticed lots of lovely Rodarians helping the visitors out. Pipista helped one family out and let them stay for free until they could get flights home. I thought it was wonderful to see how the family of Roda pulled together and made it easier to bear for a lot of people. So I'd like to add my thanks too, even though i was not directly affected (i couldnt get a flight to stay another week which upset me as i didnt want to leave) xxx T

When we suffered our delayed return to the u.k. my boss at work was very good about it and booked me down as "leave with pay" - i did not lose any money or holidays. We thought the same applied to Debbie untill yesterday when she came to check how many holidays she had left - guess what ? - her kind boss had booked her in for three extra days holiday - this will probally mean that we will not be able to try out Roda for a few days during the winter. As i said in my initial report - the people of Roda were brilliant and we could not see this happening elsewhere - how very very true. pete.

That's such a shame Pete but like you said hardly surprising knowing what us Brits are like When you only get so many days holiday per year, each and every one of them is precious and can mean the difference between having a well earned break or not. Hope Debbie can get it sorted. Nikki

Thanks Nikki, it's very annoying, Debbie never phones in sick or abuses the system in any way & this is the thanks you get, still we live & learn - we'll know what to do next time ! pete.

Pete, you are so right - never ringing in sick or abusing the system means you are often the person most 'put upon' or taken for granted.
When I worked in the NHS one of the girls I worked with took her annual 'sickness allowance' as 'holiday' - she was truly blatant about it "oh I feel like a couple of days off ..... I'll put in a couple of sick days" - I was gobsmacked!
You live and learn - but I could still not bring myself to do it - my memory isnt good enough and I would forget what I had said and to whom about why I was off/what I was doing!
Regards, Kath.

I work for the NHS too! That's awful. You'd think they'd look at it as not being her fault. She didn't ask XL to go bust, did she? No, that was you're prediction! Seriously though. That is really bad.
